The 25 year vet who did the shooting was a Field training officer! So yes, training is definitely an issue. De-escalation training is important. Not pulling people over for frivolous things, like the lieutenant and his temp tags. Or even Me. Wright for expired tags during Covid when we know DMV’s are either closed or way behind and the mail to receive notices for plates, and court notifications are way behind. People are dying over non-violent offenses. Is there a way to do a mental fitness test. If you’re so scared that you’re so scared that everything is a threat you can’t do your job safely and effectively. You are policing civilians, not behind enemy lines.
