America, and why none of it is their fault:
From reconstruction to Jim Crow, the educational (HBCUs) and family structure was in place [...] as evidenced by lower the numbers of single parent homes and high graduation rates. [But then] the push for desegregation began,[...] and asking/forcing someone to allow you into their club only leads them to being forced to do so on THEIR terms and rules, in THEIR favor.
I find it interesting that as the war on drugs started in the early 70s and the mass incarceration prison industrial complex began, it directly coincided with the skyrocketing rate of single family black homes, which coincided with defunding of public education, which coincided with “redlining” to not sell and approve home loans to even well qualified individuals. So now you have a situation of poor education, poor family structure, poor neighborhoods, and drugs dropped at your front door and the police waiting to go to war against these “drug dealers” in their neighborhoods. This affected all poor communities, urban and rural. How does one build wealth, one way is through property/land ownership, which in turn creates equity and collateral to invest or to start businesses, send kids to college and so on. If that is negatively impacted, you have potentially changed the trajectory of your kids and grandkids lives.
One thing I know, regardless of how good or how bad of a situation, 20% will succeed regardless of circumstances, 20% will fail/struggle regardless, and the rest are impacted by their environment and what they are exposed to, regardless of race.
You can’t look at an end result or current situation without looking at contributing factors, then make blanket statements without context and full understanding that each group has their own set of unique obstacles, whether it's Jews, Native Americans, Irish, Italians, Africans, etc... The onus falls on those affected and directly impacted to change their course and succeed in spite of those obstacles, real or perceived. Because mental slavery will keep you there even if there are no physical chains.

He was replying to a point I made, that a culture which doesn't value education, the nuclear family, has no self-accountability, and perpetually votes Democrat, is destined to fail. IMO, that's what's holding back black communities in America, along with a lack of real leaders and role models (I mean, they went from MLK to Lebron and Al Sharpton).
Anyway, the excuses blaming whites for everything are disingenuous at best...
For example, he mentioned public school funding, but there's a racial performance gap in literally every public school. It's typically Asians > whites > Hispanics > blacks, but it's ALWAYS blacks ranked at the bottom in terms of academic performance and standardized testing scores.
He also mentioned incarceration rates, but blacks commit crimes at a much higher rate than every other race. Black men for example are less than 7% of the population, yet they committed 56% of all homicides in 2019 (and the rate is similar for violent crimes in general).
A first step toward improving their situation would be to stop voting Democrat, because it obviously hasn't worked out well for them. In fact, moving onto the Democrat Plantation is what really "coincided" with all the problems he mentioned emerging over the past 5 decades.
