The concern over variants is pathetic. Early on virologist were talking about it taking at least a decade of evolution, if not longer for a new strain to emerge. New strains are what you worry about, not variants.
Those exposed to vaccine or infection will already have at least partial immunity to variants, and that greatly limits hospitalizations and deaths. It is impossible to reduce the risk to zero for everyone.
