people who would tell you to 'follow the science' lack the ability to understand the data he just presented.
Here is a real easy breakdown for the data challenged; if you plot your level of effort to control a certain outcome versus the actual outcome and your plots look like someone fired a shotgun at a piece of paper then your efforts had no impact on that particular outcome.
