it was 'rebranded' as South LA years ago.... When the news mentions a crime in South LA, we all know they really mean South Central....
In the mid-90's I worked for a BP division that had factories in Compton and Gardena that I had to work from a few days a month...nice place during the day, but ya had to be gone before sunset if you wanted to be safe from stray bullets
