Ol Mrs Gertim was the best around, when the big city folk started bringing about the Electrolux machines which became the nuevelle de nuevelle of the sucking game. Pretty soon folks were saying that nothing could beat the Electrolux machines. But Ma still had something to say about that.

The day came for the big contest. Who could suck the most in a day. They brought out the shiny new Electrolux and ma just gave a dismissive snort. She still had it. No machine could beat her. The gun sounded and the sucking began. Suck suck suck suck. By noon, it felt like there was nothing left in town to suck, but they both kept going.

By evening, to toil began to be seen. The motor on the Electrolux started to get hot, but it kept going. Ma was turning red, but there was nothing to stop her. They sucked and sucked, as the sun set the Electrolux was there. But Ma was seen no more. On quiet nights when the moon is orange, you can still hear a sucking noise out by the old lumberyard.
