year. We only get mildly sick. If there is a new strain of flu, then we can end up with the Spanish flu, the Asian flu, etc where more people get seriously sick and die due to a lack of immunity.
Well a ton of people have been infected by variants of SARS-CoV-2 as well as vaccinated. A new variant to those who have full or partial immunity will not result in serious illness or death. It will be like a regular cold or flu.
Those who never became sick or never became vaccinated will be at higher risk of serious illness or death due to lacking at least partial immunity.
Since the majority of the population has been infected or is vaccinated, variants are going to do much.
