At a high level there is only one virus Covid-19. Therefore adding "China" in front of virus is supurflous and implies an intent to disparage or inflame. It is fair to interpret that as inflamatory language (to use a technical term).

There are at least three variants. (UK, South Africa, and Brazil). Therefore it is appropriate to add an additional discriptor to increase comprehension of which of the multiple variants are being discussed. The local of first identification provides that in a manner that is easy to communicate and easy for the public to understand.

Just to clarify, I know explaning this to you is a waste of time. Just a glutton for punishment I guess. Fire away.
