My take is this:
The wife had no right to relinquish her husband's 2nd and 4th Amendment rights and allow the search. I think she grossly over exaggerated the situation and forced the police to search their home using the "exigent circumstances" rule.
It might surprise you, but most police officers are very pro-2A and merely get used as pawns in cases such as the McCloskeys where the DA's handpicked investigators were tasked with taking the McCloskeys' firearms as evidence. The fact the DA's office insisted on taking an inoperable firearm which had been used as a stage prop and demanding the crime lab make it operable for the purposes of prosecution should tell you everything you need to know.
