motivation. I have coached multiple sports both guys and girls for decades. My most motivated teams were always the ones who started the year thinking that they could compete for championships.

Could it be that the motivation was due to the fact that the women's times needed to be a champion were already attainable but when he ran as a guy he knew he could not compete?
