and restored them to respectability, and finally, to 4 straight NCAA bids. That’s a real accomplishment she deserves credit for. It took longer than I had hoped, but it happened.
My issue has always been, ok, what’s next? Is this her ceiling? Are things going to get a little better, or stay about the same, or get worse? She hasn’t come remotely close to the sweet 16, even with a once in a generation talent like Sophie Cunningham. That the bottom fell out immediately after Sophie graduated tells me Pingeton squandered an opportunity to build on the success Sophie brought to the program.
Most people seem to think RP can decide her own retirement date, regardless of how her teams perform. Because she runs a clean program (who in WBB doesn’t??), and it’s like a family (who cares). I’m not so sure. My expectations for the program are realistic, based on the state of WBB, they don’t involve a lot of final 4s, or even elite 8s. I’d be interested in hearing from the few WBB fans on this forum, what their expectations are for the program in order for RP to keep her job until she’s ready to retire.
