this year isn't what it used to be. But it is not the main reason. The bigger impacts are some of the blue bloods have looming NCAA sanctions that have impacted recruiting, the presence of excellent coaches at non blue blood schools like Gonzaga and Baylor siphoning off some of the better recruits, and the aging of some of the blue blood coaches (Duke and North Carolina) which are probably well past their prime. Kentucky has their normal stable of high ranking recruits; athletic and long but they don't have the scorers they have had in the past (and they didn't have the protracted non conference to get their act together).
