The party is, in essence, comprised of two groups.
One is tired of Washington politeness. Of being mocked, ridiculed and treated like dirt from the dems and from the media, yet smiling and gently pushing back while being savaged again and again. And very admittedly yes, this group decided to sacrifice the relative high ground on fiscal responsibility (there is no such actual thing in DC) as well as many social norms of politeness for someone who would take the battle to them on America first, on the evil of abortion, on China, on open borders and for finally telling the media they are totally biased and unworthy of any respect.
The other group adores the mirage of Washington propriety, of the genteel collegiality of Congress, on being invited to the Sunday talk shows (that mock them), the correspondent events (that mock them), the "respected" newspaper pow-wows (that mock them) and they wish not to appear unrefined while all the while nothing ever really changes.
Do I relish a split? Not really. But the strategies of the McCain and Romney factions of the party are loser factions, for even if you win you actually lose. And with McCain's vote to save Obamacare, you saw what that faction is really all about. Principle? No. Pettiness and self-satisfaction to save face in their beloved DC.
So if there must be a split. Good riddance. The feckless cowardice will not be missed.
