Metcalf was the most exciting player in the game in the mid-70s.
Still remember his last home game, which summed up his career perfectly. Playing the Redskins on the Saturday before Christmas. Must win. Snowed like 12 inches on the Thursday before the game (I don't know if it is global warming but I do know it used to be a hell of a lot colder here). Game time temp (3 p.m.) was 14 degrees.
Anyway, the Big Red are losing early in the 4th quarter when Metcalf fumbles inside his 20 (he was famous for carrying the ball like a loaf of bread) and the Redskins score a few plays later. Boos and whiskey bottles reigning down. The very next play from scrimmage, Metcalf takes a screen pass 75 yards for a touchdown.
It was fine having the Rams but the Cardinals were the team I grew up with.
