I think such a "flooding" or "brigading" attack would be largely ineffective.
And if you're worried about takedowns by your service/hosting provider, you could always host your platform on your own dedicated servers, in which case only the data center(s) could pull the plug on your service (which is highly unlikely). Of course, not using a CDN and distributed/cloud-based hosting infrastructure could impact the performance and response time of your site/app/services.
