1. He made no effort to expand his voter base. Instead he showed up at rallies filled with his sycophants who were already going to vote for him no matter what.
2. In truly Trumpian fashion, he wasted a lot of money early and could not muster attack ads in battleground states late in the campaign because of it.
3. He contracted Covid despite having all of the advantages of a sitting President to avoid it after openly flouting the idea of wearing a mask. This was symbolically ruinous to anyone who might be wondering if he had the proper judgment to deserve a second term.
4. He not only contracted Covid but drew attention to it by driving around with it and endangering people required to protect him. This was in addition to being flippant about beating Covid as if anyone it was nothing. Kind of offensive to the thousands of families who had a family member not able to beat Covid and it took their life.
5. His first debate performance was a display of everything that people already know about Trump, just in a concentrated 90 minute performance. Bombastic, nasty, crude. Another eye opening reminder to voters that he probably didn't deserve a first term so a second one is out of the question.
6. He went out of his way to offend every possible voter group that he could. Like a drunk driver hitting every car on the street as they recklessly make their way home. Latinos, blacks, soccer Moms, the elderly.
7. He spent literally zero time preparing (hard to believe, right?) a vision for his second term. He had nothing to offer other than supposed victories in his first term.
8. He reminded everyone that might just be plain tired of Trump's antics (that's quite a lot of his own voters by the way) that a second term would probably be just as bad in terms of petulance, vengefulness, cluelessness, dishonesty, brashness and just generally more of the same.
CONCLUSION: If Trump just could have swapped into phony politician mode for a month or so just prior to the campaign, played along and wore a mask and just looked the part, he could have won and completed his sinking of this country in four additional years.
Instead, like everything Donald Trump touches, he ruins. He announces victory too soon, goes idle and lets his worst instincts take over. As the leader of his own companies, he was free to do that, no matter where it took his personal fortunes, which took a beating when he did the same thing in the business world...got lazy and stagnant and then ruined his reputation. That's why his "business" these days is essentially branding his name in foreign countries. His gift is making people buy the enormous loads of bull**** he feeds to people who believe he is what he so readily claims himself to be.
He did well initially in New York City real estate, then got greedy and failed with casinos, then did well initially with making himself a gameshow host but that too got stagnant. Then he tried branding his name on everything, all failures. In one case a university which was essentially a fraud factory and he settled the lawsuits that followed.
Now he's going to try his hand at a network. That will do well initially but soon he'll blow that as well.
