It's a lead statistic to overall infections. This is obvious. But you refuse to use logic.
Hospitalizations are a lagging variable (intuitively). Especially since it can take up to 2 weeks for an infection to lead to hospitalization. If you want to get ahead of the spread, you should look at the positivity rate and total infections.
