Because it was in his interest to do so. There are many around the program who were irked by some of things that went on during the Porter years, but even so, the staff viewed it all as a net positive.

CM was never going to retain MPS long term in the asst role once Jontay and Michael left the picture. It was strictly a marriage of convenience.
