the following a reply to my classmate forum, in which someone suggested we should not leave the mideast yet.
Bob, I am forced to respond. And, a bit surprised, if I understand you correctly. You appear to have weakened your own argument with the comment “With or without our soldiers...there will be senseless bloodshed”. So massively true. So, I must ask, if the bloodshed is senseless....why allow it in the first place? But more to the point, for that bloodshed WHAT do we get back for it? By “we” I mean this country we love and are sworn to defend. If we get something back for trying to “help” the muslims, would someone PLEASE tell me what it is so that it makes sense and so I am unable to attack the reasoning involved.
Yes, you could say there was mayhem in Iraq. But the mideast has been in mayhem for centuries. What is our obligation to any muslim country? WHY do we insist on trying to do something for them they would NEVER begin to consider doing for our country? I just don’t get it. Yes, if we leave now it will be a mess. But its ALWAYS been a mess, after every country that’s been there trying to fix it and finally, wisely, decides to leave. Yes, I feel sorry for the people, having known numerous muslims and traveled in some of their countries. But we can NOT fix their self-induced problems. We don’t have the money and we should certainly save the lives.
I, again, rest my case.
