Jim Thomas had attended Stewart's weekly news conference Jan. 5 and that afterward the basketball coach had summoned Thomas told the Missourian that Stewart was calm at first but soon became agitated. Then Stewart told Thomas that recent Post-Dispatch articles were hurting him and his coaching.
Thomas, who is in his fourth year as a Post-Dispatch reporter on the Missouri beat, told the Missourian that Stewart pointed at him and said: "I know some people who can take care of your 1-year-old."
Thomas and his wife have an infant son Stewart had seen earlier in the day, the Missourian story said. Thomas
said in the Missourian story that he didn't respond immediately because he couldn't believe what Stewart had said.

Nebraska basketball coach Danny Nee said he felt personally attacked by Missouri Coach Norm Stewart, who reportedly told Cornhuskers fans Nee is a 'bush-league' coach.
'I think anytime you get attacked like that you have to take it personally. There's no other way I could take it,' Nee said Monday.
