We have previously reviewed the 2017 and 2016 Missouri high school recruiting classes by Rivals, which were less than stellar. Tonight, we move on to the class of 2015, which was significantly better, aside from a few lost causes, and included a number of Mizzou connections:

1. Drew Lock QB Lee’s Summit (H.S)

Son of former Mizzou player Andy Lock, the four-star, #177 player overall in the nation, committed to the Tigers. Thrust into action midway through his true freshman season after the suspension of starting QB Maty Mauk, he bravely performed with 1,322 yards and 4 passing TD’s in four games. Became the regular starter as a sophomore and led the SEC with 3,399 passing yards. Named 1st Team All-SEC quarterback as a junior, with 3,944 passing yards, and 44 TD’s, leading the entire nation in touchdown passes, and setting an al-time SEC record (which was surpassed by Joe Burrow at LSU last year.) Considered a possible high-round NFL pick, he returned to Mizzou for a fourth season and was named the 2nd Team All-SEC quarterback with 3,498 yards and 28 TD’s. Projected as a first-rounder, and possible top ten pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, he slipped into the second round and was selected #42 overall by the Denver Broncos. Suffered a thumb injury during the 2019 pre-season, but recovered to start the final five games of the season, passing for 7 TD’s and leading Denver to a 4-1 record in the games he started. Suffered a shoulder injury during the current season, but has been the Broncos’ starter in six games and seems firmly entrenched as their QB for the immediate future.

2. Alex Ofodile WR Columbia (Rock Bridge)

Another Mizzou legacy, son of former tight end A.J. Ofodile was a four-star recruit, #214 overall recruit in the nation. Spurned offers from Missouri, Alabama, Clemson, Arizona St. and Arkansas and signed with Oregon. Sat out as a medical redshirt for the Ducks during the 2015 season after breaking his foot. Appeared in seven games as a redshirt freshman during the 2016 season, with only one reception for eight yards. Buried on the depth chart during the 2017 season, he appeared in five games with three receptions. Graduated early and transferred to Mizzou as a grad transfer for the 2018 season, with two years of eligibility remaining. Played sparingly in 11 games for the Tigers during the 2018 season, collecting no stats, then retired from football. Currently serving as an assistant coach at Columbia (Hickman) H.S.

3. Khalil Davis DT Blue Springs (H.S.)

Four-star recruit was heavily recruited by Mizzou but chose Nebraska. Sat out the 2015 season as a redshirt. Played as a backup DT for the Cornhuskers the next two seasons, collecting five tackles as a redshirt freshman and 15 tackles as a redshirt sophomore. As a part-time starter during the 2018 season, he made 41 tackles and was named Honorable Mention All Big-10. Led the team with 8 sacks his senior season and was named 3rd Team All Big-10. A sixth-round pick by Tampa Bay in the 2020 NFL Draft, has not appeared in any games while transitioning to DE.

4. Marquise Doherty RB Gladstone (Winnetonka)

Four-star, dual-sport athlete was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB draft, but opted to sign with Mizzou to play football. After sitting out as a redshirt during 2015, he left the football team and joined the Tigers’ baseball team as an outfielder for the 2016 season, appearing in 12 games and batting .216. Left Mizzou and enrolled at Hutchinson (KS) CC for his sophomore baseball season, and played somewhat sparingly, primarily as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner. Enrolled at NAIA William Woods (MO) in Fulton in 2018 and was a starting outfielder for two seasons.

5. Carlos Davis DT Blue Springs (H.S.)

Twin brother of Khalil Davis (listed above), three-star recruit joined his brother at Nebraska. Sat out season as a redshirt during 2015, then passed over his more highly-rated brother and emerged as a part-time starter as a redshirt freshman with 4 starts and 24 tackles. Joined the Cornhuskers’ track and field squad during the spring season in 2017 as a discus thrower. Became a full-time starter as a redshirt sophomore with 42 tackles and two sacks, then was named an Honorable Mention All-American at discus in the Spring. Honorable Mention All Big-10 football player as a junior with 27 tackles and two sacks, was injured during the track season. Tallied 32 tackles and four sacks as a senior, then earned 2nd team All-American honors in the discus. Seventh round pick, #232 overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL Draft, has appeared in three games with two tackles this season.

6. Hale Hentges TE Jefferson City (Helias)

Three-star recruit inked with Alabama (hard to blame him). Exceptional blocker played as a backup on the Tide’s national championship team as a true freshman, appearing in six games, and had one reception. Valuable reserve appeared in every game as a sophomore during 2016, with no receptions. Emerged as the starting tight end on the national championship team of 2017, with seven catches and 75 years. Named a team captain on the 2018 team, he caught his first two TD’s and was named Alabama’s Scholar Athlete of the Year, encompassing all sports. Undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, he signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts, was waived prior to the 2019 season, then was claimed off waivers by the Washington Redskins (Football Team, whatever) and contributed 8 receptions, 103 yards and a TD. Currently back with the Colts as a member of their practice squad.

7. Alec Murphy RB Nixa (H.S.)

Three-star recruit signed with Mississippi St. Redshirted his first season, then appeared sparingly the next two seasons, exclusively on special teams. Transitioned to cornerback for the 2018 season, playing in 8 games at that position as a reserve, but excelling on the kickoff and punt teams. Sat out the 2019 season with various injuries, graduated and retired from football.

8. Cam Hilton ATH Webster Groves (H.S.)

Three-star recruit committed to Mizzou and played backup WR as a true freshman, with 9 receptions for 129 yards. Transitioned to a defensive back for his sophomore year, appearing in every game and registering 12 tackles. Started six games as a junior, with 49 tackles and an interception. Full-time starter as a senior, had 26 tackles and three picks. Decent career.

9. Ryan Williams RB Lee’s Summit (West)

Three-star running back signed with Mizzou. Following a redshirt season, he carried 9 times for 51 yards in our blowout win over Delaware St. early in the 2016 season, was somewhat ballyhooed as our lead back of the future, then mysteriously never appeared again. Left after the 2016 season and enrolled at Coffeyville (KS) CC, where he had 60 yards rushing in limited action, then again mysteriously disappeared. Whereabouts unknown.

10. Nate Howard DE Ladue (Horton Watkins)

Three-star talent signed with Mizzou and appeared to be a possible emerging star as a true freshman, starting 8 games and collecting 12 tackles. Played in only four games as a sophomore, with one QB sack. Dismissed from the team after the 2016 season following an arrest for felony assault, Enrolled at FCS Austin Peay (TN) for the 2017 season and started seven games with four sacks. Started the first six games for the Governors in 2018 season with 4 sacks, before being declared academically ineligible.
