told me how to put my ballot into the counting machine, or whatever they call it.

I asked how i can be sure it will be counted.

He said you just put it in there....duh.

I then asked how i can be sure it will be counted correctly.

He seemed genuinely flummoxed and had no response as he accepted the ballot of the next voter.
