Hunter's lawyer made the mistake of telling the shop owner he wanted his client's property returned.

If he did that it was a serious tactical mistake. That will be used as an admission that it belonged to Hunter. Even if it was his Hunter abandoned it and the shop owner had no obligation to return it. By then it was obvious that he was in contact with other powerful people, he was not going to intimidate him into returning it at that time. Maybe the cokehead son hired a cokehead lawyer.
