First the Donald.
Surprisingly, Trump actually said a few true things.
He has gotten 300 judges seated, with a total of 3 to come on the Supreme Court. But if it wasn't for the fact that its all about legislating from the bench...who would care?
When Trump brought up that there were 178 open positions, my immediate thought is that was because republicans
played politics and hypocritically blocked them, revealing
their true nature of how they feel about elections.
Trump's most solid point was about sensitivity training, but he did a very poor job of explaining why it is bad.
He should have said its less about sensitivity and more about demeaning, but that would have taken some preparation which Trump don't do- and it shows.
Clearly the highpoint of Trump's administration is that he got the Big Howevermany to resume playing football, and he was solid on that.
Beyond that the overall impression is that Trump thinks
that Debate rules are as important as the Constitution- a nothing burger to be discarded from the onset.
Virtually everything else he said was lie after lie after lie. And the delusional lies about Hunter Biden were bizarre even for Trump.
Its obvious he has absolutely no plan for the next
four years and no vision, beyond corruption, racism, pollution and golf.
Overall grade: a very low F-. I e if he did about
twice as good as he did , he would still be in F land.
Biden:
The main impression was the republican constant yapping
about senility is of course a republican lie.
He did stumble on his words a few times and he had one major misspeak- where he said he was not for the Green New Deal, then he said he was, then against it again.
But it was at least obvious he is against the more socialistic parts of the Green New Deal and for the environmental parts they lifted from me.
Biden did have a couple of factually incorrect thing. He
said violent crime has risen under Trump. Now that probably WILL BE TRUE, but until 2020 stats come out, it has to be considered half true. He also said Trump eliminated 400 million from police assistance. Not true- Trump eliminated 555 million.
Biden was solid on the corona and the economy. He did very well on the environment. He was a little weak on the BLM protests, but he correctly nailed Trump as a racist, which Trump practically admitted with his support of the Proud Boys.
There were quite a few times when Trump left himself
open for a knockout punch and Biden couldn't close.
For instance:
when Trump lied about paying millions of dollars in federal taxes, Biden did correctly state for Trump to release them. What he should have said was:
Donald you are lying to the American people, but prove me wrong and release them (you know how I so easily crsuh republicans here) and no we are not going to accept your often repeated bald faced lie that you can't because of the IRS investigating your returns.
Another when Trump lied about wanting perfect air and water, Biden should have said: then why Donald did your EPA just allow increasing amounts of lead arsenic and mercury into the environment if you care so much about American's health?
There were another at least 4 more such opportunities.
Biden particularly did well refuting Trump's lie that environmental protection is bad for the economy, but even there he could have said time after time that
protecting the environment revs up the economy and the opposite ruining the environment harms the economy.
On the ballot issue, Biden did poorly. He never once mentioned the massive voter suppression that republicans use , particularly in regards to mail in ballots. Biden should have taken the time to educate people on that.
Had Chris Wallace done any kind of decent job keeping Trump under control, Biden would have done much better, but it is what it is.
Overall grade Biden: C+.
So Biden didn't so much win as Trump very clearly lost.
The most ominous takeaway is that Trump was blowing that dog whistle furiously for his debased to disrupt
the election in anyway they can and to foment violence
while the ballots are being counted.
Going forward, if there are further "debates"
Trump should be enclosed in a soundproof acrylic booth and his mic shut off except during his time to speak. If I was Biden I would insist on it.
