so far the information sounds like that which you would find in tax work sheets. Obviously if that’s the case they would have salary information. As far as legality is concerned, they have said the source had legal right to it. No comments have been made about the legality of the source turning it over to them. Even if the source violated laws in releasing the data to the NYT they are not breaking any law by publishing the information. It sounds like someone within the Trump organization or his tax firm is the source
