somehow get off the pace of trending to lose 110 games, pull together some nice finishes at the end of the season to *only* end up losing 95 games and then everyone has false hope for the coming year.

"Did you see how the pitching and hitting finally came together in September?"

"The Royals were 15-10 in September, if they can carry that into next year we can contend!"

So they go another offseason not unloading the negligible talent they have to fully commit to a re-build, instead they limp along on the false hope of only being 1 or 2 players away from the playoffs...or "if these 4 guys turn it around and all have career years, we can contend"

We've seen that play out too many times in the past several decades.
