The St. Louis County Council had oversight over the $173.5 million federal grant meant to alleviate problems caused by the pandemic. However, the
4 member Democrat majority on the Council, shirking their responsibility, voted to give St. Louis County Executive Page sole authority over the Covid spending back in April. Now they have regrets.
Elected Members of the County Council:
District 1 –Councilwoman Rita Days (Democrat)
District 2 – Councilwoman Kelli Dunaway (Democrat)
District 3 - Councilman Tim Fitch (Republican)
District 4 – Councilwoman Rochelle Walton Gray (Democrat)

There is dissension within St. Louis County government. Yes, county government. It again has to do with County Executive Sam Page's dictatorial ways in handing out funds from the $173.5 million federal grant meant to alleviate problems caused by the pandemic.
At the August 25 meeting of the County Council's Oversight of Covid Funds & Expenditures Committee, Councilwoman Kelli Dunaway, who chairs the committee, had some unpleasant things to say about the Page administration.
Dunaway said there was none of the collaboration that was expected when the council gave Sam Page the sole authority to spend the $173.5 million. She feels they have been shut out of the process. Who would of thought? Dunaway said Mike Chapman of the County Executive's office said just that morning he would be a no-show at the meeting. He was taking the day off! He was supposed to make a presentation to the committee. We get no respect! said Dunaway. We expect and DEMAND better!
(A link to the video from the meeting is below. Dunaway starts at around 2:35 and goes on about three minutes.)
About three weeks after the council voted to give Page sole authority over the Covid spending back in April, Dunaway, council Chair Lisa Clancy and Councilwoman Rita Days complained about how things were operating. The Post-Dispatch chided them in an editorial. (See link below.) Days even suggested at one meeting that the committee may be nothing more than window dressing.
Just this week, two items that Sam Page wanted -- a blank check for legal services to defend him in a discrimination suit and $200,000 for questionable veterinary services -- were held up at the County Council meeting. They lacked support for approval. It seems some Page supporters on the council are finally catching on.
