If you go to cast a ballot in person, the polling place checks the register to determine if you requested a mail in/absentee ballot. If you did and do not bring the mail in ballot with you to the polling location (to be 'spoiled' by the poll worker), you will only be allowed to fill out a provisional ballot. That provisional ballot will be counted if it is determined your absentee ballot was not received and counted.
There is no way (if the system works) that a person with an absentee ballot can cast a duplicate in person ballot using their own name.
