But one false meme from 2016 was that Hillary had had a stroke. There were several posters on this site absolutely convinced it to be true. WI and MI voted for Trump by margins of 23K votes and 15K votes respectively. That means that only 11K and 7.5 K people had to change their minds from Hillary to Trump based on this or any other fabricated story.

I am not suggesting that there were that many votes changed because of the stroke meme. I'm saying that collectively, these false memes and stories have an effect even if extremely difficult to quantify. Given the small margins in the states listed above, it doesn't take much.
