The year 2020 will be remembered for covid19 and social injustice. Real life is as tense and volatile as any since 1968 which I remember well. Any distraction to help us thru the strife is welcome. I am hoping that the return of football will give us some entertainment and excitement.
Unfortunately, my wife has had as tough a year as anyone could imagine. In June of 2019 she was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain. Further tests found that the tumor was due to colon cancer. She had brain surgery, then colon surgery. After months of chemo and radiation, she is cancer free now. However, she is still weak and has a very compromised immunity system. She cannot attend due to risks of the virus. I will not be going because if by any small chance I might get it and bring it home to her, she will die.
For the first season since 1981, I will not be a ticket holder for Tiger football. I missed one game in 2003 when I was out of state attending a wedding. This will also be the first season since 1954 that a member of my family will not be there for kickoff. Mom and dad went to every game for almost 40 years. It has been part of my family since before I was born.
That was my lament. I will be watching on tv and hoping for the best, including the health of all players and staff. This my request to all the ticket holders who can attend the games. Be loud, support our Tigers like never before because you are carrying the hopes and pride of all the Tiger fans who cannot be there. Me included.
GO TIGERS!
