ER several times a week.

Phyllis was a frequent flier....mind eaten up by syphilis. The guys would get Phyllis drunk and try to have a poke with her. And Phyllis would not always cooperate because she was a mean drunk.

So when she got combative, they would call 9-1-1. "Come get Phyllis. She's having a seizure!"

And she'd end up at the Med Center because, of course, she was uninsured.

And they would run a battery of tests and find out no seizure--she was just drunk and combative.

Got called once and she'd managed to grab an OB-GYN stirrup and was swinging it. My sgt told her to put the stirrup down or he'd shoot her. And he would have. She had a moment of clarity and dropped her weapon.

Cuffed her, put her in leg shackles, and wrapped her like a burrito in a disposable sheet. Took her ass to Boone County jail.

The women's unit was up a steel staircase and she couldn't step up in the leg shackles. And she was still uncooperative. The sgt put her wrist in a compliance hold and applied pressure and she hopped from step to step.

Shìt like this went on with that woman at least once a month.
