Democrats do recognize the threat Trump presents,

Unfortunately, the democrats reside in the wrong areas of the country. There are not enough democrats in the battle ground states.
I have long contended its the democrat's hard shift to the left that allowed Trump to be elected. 222 counties heavily democratic, mostly in the Midwest states of Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania that twice previously voted for Obama switched over to Trump.
Why?
These democrat voters were mostly white, were marginalized by the very people they entrusted to look out for their interests. Trump said all of the things centrist democrats used to say. Jobs, revitalization of manufacturing, building a quality life for everyone versus an increasingly ascendant progressive populism focused on identity politics and a globalist economy which left many without jobs or a future to look forward to. It was not called the rust belt for nothing as people watched their jobs (and their futures) being farmed out overseas.
You can still hear the condescension. These same voters were once referred to as blue collar workers. Now they are referred to as 'uneducated whites'.
