in fact far from it. It’s a long way until the first game, 6 weeks from Saturday. I like that the SEC is waiting as long as they can before cancelling the season, hoping that the virus situation gets better and not worse. The main reason they moved the tentative start of the season back to Sept 26 was to see what the public health impact would be of 30k students descending on campus from all over the state, and country. The impact that has here and on other SEC campuses is what will determine if football is in fact played this year. So far the very limited experience of public schools opening does not give us much confidence.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see football this fall, any football. But all the SEC has done is buy itself a little more time in order to have the most current data on the virus spread. It’s a sound approach. I’m surprised the B1G and PAC pulled the plug on August 11. There was no reason to do it that early. They could have waited at least 3 more weeks to make their final decision.

My guess is that the SEC has just put off the inevitable, and that cases will start exploding with the students back on campus. Hope I’m wrong.
