TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police are investigating after a man wielding a knife at officers was shot and killed by police Saturday, Tulsa police Capt. Richard Meulenberg said.
Meulenberg said police were called to North Harvard Avenue and Apache Street after there was a report of a man with a knife in the area.
Police found out the man, whose name has not been released, had a felony warrant, Meulenberg said.
Meulenberg said when police tried to approach the man, he refused to obey commands and started hurting himself with a knife.
After a crisis intervention team was unsuccessful, officers tried other ways to get the man to comply and that’s when he approached officers with a knife, Meulenberg said.
Once the man was approaching officers, police shot at the man and then rendered first aid after he was wounded, Meulenberg said.
Meulenberg said the man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
It wasn’t immediately known how many officers shot at the man.
Police are still investigating.
