If I remember right, OU won the national title that year. I think that’s right.
Came into Columbia and I think they were up 20 - 0 at halftime. Relying on memory.
And Mizzou came roaring back in the second half. Pisarkiwitz, Henry Marshall, Curtis Brown brought Mizzou all the way back until late in the fourth quarter, I think Curtis Brown covered a Marshall fumble in the end zone to put Mizzou ahead 27-20.
We had a defensive back - Kenny Downing? - leave the field for one play and that was the play where silver shoes Joe Washington ripped off a 75 yard touchdown run to Downing’s side of the field.
OU went for 2 - and Washington was stopped short of the goal line (I still believe that). But shades of Colorado and the 5th down game, the ref signaled that he made it for the successful two point conversion. And Mizzou lost 28-27. At least, that’s how I remember it. Might have gotten a few details wrong.
I was working at the Campus Inn as a waiter back then and the upside of games like those - the OU visitors always tipped heavily that night. :-)
Seems like a good number of my favorite Mizzou memories are losses. :-(
