Something like 2750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate stored since 2013 in a dockside warehouse was set off. In contrast the Oklahoma City bombers used about one ton of ammonium nitrate to blow up the Murrah Federal Bldg.

Not sure this is connected, but Beirut once served as a center for the international fertilizer trade. A couple decades ago there was a relationship between a Lebanon based agricultural fertilizer concern and a Missouri based chain of retail fertilizer and chemical plants. The Lebanese family who owned the firm were based in Paris, France. The Missouri headquarters was situated in the Mark Twain Bank building in Kansas City, Missouri.
