disadvantageous for Biden to participate in debates given Trump's propensity to sink himself on his own is not in any way equivalent to saying that Biden is backing out of or avoiding debates. There are 3 scheduled debates, he agreed to all of them, and has given no indication whatsoever that he won't participate. So yes the notion to the contrary is entirely created by conservative misinformation.
