but how would you like to live in a city where the men (regardless of their personal motivation) that fought on the side attempting to prolong the enslavement your ancestors are honored with a hero's place in history in city parks and government buildings. Not to mention the fact that most of these monuments were erected during eras where southern whites were pushing back against civil rights being extended towards blacks. That's not something I'd want to see every day; kind of like a constant reminder of your place at the bottom of the ladder. It's not being done to change minds, it won't accomplish that, but rather to remove the in-your-face reminder of one's heritage as a slave.
