WADR to everyone on the board (due respect being not much in some instances), just because a flag, a statute or a name offends someone is not a good reason to take it down, let someone tear it down or change.
Anyone remember the nursey rhyme "sticks and stones may break may bones, but words will never hurt me". Tearing down offensive flags and signs, destroying statutes or changing the name from someone who died a hundred and fifty years ago because he was on the other side of a conflict, etc. are simply the acts of someone who isn't serious about addressing the real issues in our society.
Bottom lime is there are a hell of a lot of things in society that offend each of us. We and the country as a whole would be far better off to stop worrying about "offensive speech", toughen up and interact reasonably with the other side.
The old saying that you should "write your Congressman or woman" comes to mind. Another is "big boys don't cry".
