My dad taught and coached 27 yrs and said his best student was a wise-ass he felt he just had to smack one time. But IN GENERAL, I question it. Perhaps there is a place for it, but giving some frustrated, over-worked and underpaid teacher the capacity to hit a child - I don't know about that. I stand for teachers but like in all industries there are folks lacking the discipline to properly discipline.

I remember Sam Howell Varsity Football coach Cardinal Newman HS, W Palm, had this wise ass kid in a class - 70 minute class who was cutting up. Howell told him to stand up and move to the aisle. He did. Then he told him to squat and went on to teach the class. OH man.
