They don't call wheat bread "brown bread" or pumpernickel bread "black bread." Yet they take boring, bland and unexciting light colored bread and call it "white" clearly because this is how society views white people. We are all apparently like the Jefferson's neighbor, Tom Willis.
And don't get me started on how they call the sh*tty team in Chicago the White Sox. No coincidence there.
