They are paid professionals. This is a job (and especially football) comes with a lot of known health hazards. College players are not paid. The liability risk is too great.

If one player dies from getting COVID while playing/practicing it will be a major lawsuit. Not to mention if we learn that COVID causes ongoing health problems that negatively impact a player from pursing a pro career the class action lawsuit would do more to devastate athletic balance sheets than a missed season.
