Its an interesting conundrum
OTOneH Mueller has traditionally been a cover up guy

OTOtherH why would someone plant a false story? Why to deflect from something that is completely true. (For example the Bush AWOL from the Air Force. That was completely true but false documents were planted which made the whole story disappear).

All sides are Lying in Liars Poker. That is what Washington DC is all about.

and I produced the only two possibilities in this scenario.

Either Mueller is covering this up or the journalists were given a fake story. Or I suppose both could be true.
