had Norm left before they forced him out. I always considered Kim’s hire by the time they did as anachronous. Other than 1 season (98-99) it was a downhill run for Norm after 95 (UCLA). In hindsight I always thought had Norm left then he probably would have had a say in his successor out of respect for all he’d done for the program which probably would have been Kim. Kim was probably better suited for the job at that time in several regards. He might have kept most of the staff, which wasn’t bad, in tack maintaining program familiarity while adding a degree of freshness. Norm was instead forced out, everything had to start from scratch and the rest as they say is history. Who know if it would’ve worked but it’s something I’ve always thought about.
