No one expects a person to know exactly where they got it. Inept management of the pandemic response has made that sort of tracking impossible.

But it's more than reasonable to expect someone to know the potential sources of the infection and be forthright with that information.

If an employee gets an infection and then denies knowledge of obvious potential sources of exposure, they should not expect to be retained. That is clearly a person either unwilling or too stupid to take basic measures to protect the health of customers.
