Works at a hospital in C(r)ook County (Chicago) that handles patients.
They have about 40 OR rooms (all have ventilators and some back ups) that are not in use since elective surgeries are still canceled. Said they're running at about 5% of total capacity of ventilators and never peaked over 10%.
They've been almost "forcing" people onto ventilators, risking patients lives and damaging their lungs in the process - all because they want that $39,000 reimbursement for throwing a patient on a ventilator, compared with $13,000 for just treating them.
Said it is pretty nasty to people that have other health conditions though (Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, cancer, etc.).
