not give anyone cancer. Having the habit of smoking doesn't give you cancer.
The science points to the correlation of smoking multiple cigarrettes over a number of years (combined with other genetic and lifestyle risk factors) puts people at higher risk of cancer. That plus laboratory data shows that chemicals in cigarette smoke gives cancer to laboratory animals.
Yet, even with that, smoking is still legal. People are given the freedom to choose to smoke or not smoke.
There is no science showing that wearing a mask, especially cloth masks, are protective against coronaviruses. That on top of a R0 that is no different than influenza (which could be deadly) makes the requirement of wearing them quite dubious.
