there are two things. First, RP creates, touts, and markets the concept that this team will be a second home for these girls. She will "take care of" their little girls. The parents love that. And you hear the team talk about it a lot. They have a very tight, excellent locker room culture. The relationships they had with the asst. coach who died of cancer, and that they have with RP's Downs Syndrome son, are a big deal on this team.
Second, RP is a pretty conservative evangelical Christian. Many of her players are as well. A lot of them, and a lot of her recruits, quote scripture in their twitter bios. I think she is known as that kind of a coach, and that causes girls who are serious about their faith to be strongly attracted.
Sophie, the Porters, Aldridge, Schuchts, all were pretty public about their faith, as is RP.
I don't know these things to be true, but these are the impressions I've gotten.
