system in this country is the failure to remotely educate the populace on basic economics and personal finance.

The number of people who don't even understand basic supply and demand principles is appalling. Granted, this current problem is much more complicated than that, but if the populace can't grasp why hospitals didn't already hold a vast stockpile of PPE and ventilators before this, then how are they going to understand the consequences of shutting the economy down and trying to restart it slowly and in irrational steps?
