It's anything but dead. Missouri's largest city share's a metro with Kansas and the university is essentially in that metro. That's how rivalries happen, not by playing team located 1000 miles away even if it's in the same conference. The Mizzou - kansas exhibition game garnered huge interest as will the upcoming basketball series. The only long distance rivalries in the country are in the service acadamies and ND-USC.
